An Aussie travel company has holiday packages to Afghanistan and Iraq – and business is booming.

But the Department of Foreign Affairs has warned that hardy travellers who snap up the deals should know what they’re getting into.

In what is claimed as a first of its kind, “cultural engagement trips” to some of the world’s most unstable destinations also include holiday packages to Somalia, Sudan, Iran and North Korea.

But the adventures don’t come cheaply – a trip to Afghanistan is about $12,000 – with a slice of the cost being injected into local charities or volunteer groups.
