Activities by rights groups are centered around the abortion issue, but certainly aren't confined to it. Animal rights activists have been out doing dirty deeds, but their acts go largely unnoticed. The Animal Liberation Front (ALF), an underground animal rights group, claimed responsibility for a number of fires that caused damage in downtown Chicago department stores. Five of eight incendiary devices ignited, causing fires in Marshall Field's, Carson Pirie Scott and Saks Fifth Avenue stores. While death is not an objective in the actions of most rights groups-as it undermines their causes-each possesses its crazies, as terror and death serve as their tools.
