United States - Nuts and Bolts

Hassles with the Police

The U.S. features one of the most disciplined and honest police structures in the world. However, there are bad apples. Prejudiced detainment of travelers is frequent. Use of excessive force, particularly in the inner cities, occurs frequently. False arrest occurs less frequently but is also common in the inner cities. Police response time in most areas of the U.S. is considered excellent. Police in rural areas are known to stop speeders and demand immediate payment for traffic violations. Refusal to pay will result in free room and board.
