From the United States, the best connections by air are made through Europe, Nairobi and Johannesburg. Sabena flies from Brussels to Entebbe, while British Airways flies to Kampala from Gatwick. Air France flies direct from Paris. Uganda Airways is the national carrier. By rail, there is twice-weekly service to Kampala from Nairobi and Mombasa. Ugandan Railway Corporation (URC) has in the past operated a ferry to Port Bell from Mwanza in Tanzania, but the service was suspended at press time. By road, border crossings are open at Malaba, Busia Mutuku, Kisoro, Arua and Lwakhakha. Drivers will need an international license and proof of insurance. There will be a fee for a temporary Uganda road license.
