A passport is required. A visa is not required for tourist or business visits of up to three months. For information on entry requirements to Turkey, travelers can contact the nearest Turkish Consulate in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles or New York, or the embassy in Washington, D.C.: Embassy of the Republic of Turkey, 1714 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20036, Tel.: (202) 659-8200. Or take a look at what appears to be the official Turkish government website: www.turkey.com. You won't find it particularly thrilling. When you get off the plane in Istanbul, you need to proceed to the line to the left of the longer lines. You'll know what we're talking about. If you want to head to the east then it's either a short plane ride or a long bus journey to Diyarbakir. There are numerous police, militia and army roadblocks with lots of operations taking place. Do not believe any tourism hype about a minor problem with rebels.
