Sri Lanka - Getting Around

About a third of Sri Lanka's 47,070 miles of road are paved. There are 1,210 miles of heavily traveled railroad and 14 airfields; the only major airport is in Colombo. Trains are arguably more comfortable than buses, but are slower and don't service as many areas of the island as do buses. The train stations, although dilapidated, aren't nearly as crowded as those in India, where rail travel is the lifeblood of Indians. However, don't fall asleep on the trains. You'll more than likely get ripped off by a thief.
