Aid workers run the risk of being kidnapped. The good news is that ransoms are relatively low-$100,000 per person for 10 aid workers kidnapped in April 1998. Somali gunmen also shot up a chartered UN plane a month earlier as it tried to land at Sakoweyne. A UN doctor was ambushed and murdered.
