Sierra Leone - Getting Around

The single 52-mile (84-km) railroad line was abandoned in 1971. Most roads are hellish; the airlines bring in the odd supplies and whisk the wealthy away for shopping sprees in Paris or London. Freetown is perpetually under siege; the countryside is slowly being upgraded from absolutely deadly to very dangerous. It will be a long time yet before travelers can wander through the rain forests in Sierra Leone looking for rare orchids.
