Local journalists are routinely rounded up, arrested and beaten by government thugs. The French-based reporters' rights group, Reporters Sans Frontieres, occasionally sends in lawyers from Brussels to Freetown to bail out and defend busted reporters. They, too, are usually beaten up and busted.
