As of the beginning of 1995, the Mohajirs are the principal disturbers in the Karachi area. The Mohajirs are Urdu-speaking Muslim immigrants who came here from India after the partition between Pakistan and India in 1947. Their political/military group, the Mohajir National Movement (MQM), is directly battling police and strong arming locals. They were (and I guess, still are) led by Altaf Hussein, who skipped to London in the early 1990s; he has since been charged with just about everything under the sun except child molesting. There are six major political and religious groups in Karachi. In total, they have 1,000 armed guerrillas and snipers operating at any one time.
