Welcome to the Twin Cities: Dirty Rawalpindi and squeaky-clean Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, are only 10 kilometers and two worlds apart. Islamabad is the showcase city for the embassy folks, and Rawalpindi is where all the real people live. The crime rate in Islamabad is lower than in many parts of Pakistan, but it is on the rise. In the recent past, Americans have been the victim of armed robberies and assaults, although these types of incidents are not frequent. Thefts from the massive walled residences are common. As usual, they are typically inside jobs. Most incidents experienced by the American community are committed by servants employed in the household. Rawalpindi has experienced some bombings in public areas, such as markets, cinemas and parks.
