The North Koreans think all Westerners who visit the country are spies. North Korea is host to few foreign tourists, and those who do get in will only see areas of the country targeted by the government for them to see. All visitors are accompanied by a government guide. You will be subjected to intense propaganda wherever you go. And you will never be permitted to stray off the beaten path unattended, although you might be occasionally permitted an unattended evening stroll around Pyongyang. Crime is not a problem in North Korea. There is wide speculation that thieves and criminals get the death penalty. In this regard, no area of North Korea can be catgorized as unsafe. There is no U.S. embassy in North Korea.
