These instant churches promise to their followers wealth, jobs and other miracles. Thousands of Nigerians now take part in religious moneymaking rituals, which can occasionally get out of hand. In one instance in Imo state, outraged crowds burned down the houses of suspected "new breed" church members after the discovery of the head of a missing child, two tongues, skulls and other human remains on the grounds of the Overcomers Church. These churches have sprung up all over Nigeria. The only folks getting rich, though, are their owners/pastors, who trot the globe in private jets and show up for sermons in imported luxury cars.
