Taylor's ad hoc generals weren't the only colorful characters. Top of the Pops was the 25-year-old Krahn fighter, Joshua Milton Blahyi, who led the Butt Naked Brigade. Their claim to fame was going into battle in their birthday suits as a sign of defiance and invincibility. Young boys cheered the amply endowed "general" when he "swung" through the capital on his motorbike and fought wearing only Chuck Taylors. The exalted moniker was actually bestowed on him by journalists and was not of his own making. Originally he was a thug and robber who was recruited as a fighter for Roosevelt Johnson in 1994. He says he began his evil ways at age 11 in a satanic ritual requiring him to perform human sacrifices. He went into battle naked to ensure his safety on the battlefield. He has admitted to butchering a number of small children, many killed while they played. He says his transformation from killer to saver occurred in June 1996, when he was standing nude on the New Bridge waiting to kill some people and God appeared to him. "He said I was a slave to Satan, not the hero I considered myself to be." Butt Naked attended theology school in Nigeria, now is a born-again preacher in Monrovia and can be heard singing out against sin and evil.
