Massoud Barzani's nephew and likely successor, Nachevan, is the eminence grise of the KDP. He is rarely seen and does not often give interviews. When Saddam's psychopathic brat, Uday, was so untragically gunned down in Baghdad Nachevan roared off to his bedside. Uday, you will not be surprised to know, is Nachevan's business partner in sanctions busting, i.e., selling oil to Turkey. Otherwise Nachevan would probably have finished off the assassins' job. What else would you do to someone who has lobbed chemical weapons at your village? Otherwise, though, he rocks round Baghdad in a Ferrari and is the key decision maker in the KDP after Massoud. And according to the slightly jaundiced view of a PUK politburo member, Nachevan "is a bit too much of a ladies' man."
