Can be a tad hazardous. While local services in Turkey provide an efficient transport bus/minbus system you could well be turned back by the military-if they spot you. Travel at night is for morons and locals only. The PKK stop cars and sometimes burn lorries. Local militias stop traffic pretending to be PKK and rob travelers. That said, during a spate of foreign tourist kidnappings in 1995 all the victims were traveling during the day.
In northern Iraq the war between the KDP and PKK has left the border region security at an all-time low. Large areas are now under the control of the PKK at night. If its not wave your white flag time, try an armored vehicle with about 20 bodyguards. You might get through.

The following is a sampling of the regulations on a passenger ticket for the Turkish domestic carrier Bodrum Airlines. Their use of English is impeccable, wouldn't you say?
1. You cannot give back your ticket, but if you annonce us before 24 hours your depart that you cannot fly you can use your ticket with in one year. After passing one year, you can not fly with your ticket.
2. You have to get in touch with contuar befe 30 mitutes of the departure, atherwine you don't get on the board and you don't have any rights for justice.
3. If someone gets ticket by doing tricky, Bodrum Airlines has rezerved the rights that there is no must to give a permation that passenger gets on the board.
4. Bodrum Airlines is not able to carry out flight schadule if an unusual thinks take place like bed weather, NOTAM, float, fire, eath queke, war, gone of elefricity, natural disaster, etc.
5. Do not allawe to drink alcaol and smoke cigarets on board.
