Since the start of the PKK war there have been about 3,000 unsolved murders in southeastern Turkey. As most of these people were Kurdish activists, suspicion has rather unsurprisingly fallen on the Turkish military. The government tries to blame the PKK. Relatives of victims who try and bring charges against military personnel stand an excellent chance of becoming victims themselves.
