Medical care and facilities throughout Israel are generally excellent. Israel has one of the highest doctor-patient ratios in the world, about one doctor for every 339 patients. Travelers can find information in English about emergency medical facilities and after-hours pharmacies in the Jerusalem Post newspaper. Water is normally safe to drink, but bottled water is a better choice for the cautious. Tap water outside the main towns is not safe for drinking.
