The Iraqis are sore losers. U.S. citizens and other foreigners working near the Kuwait-Iraq border have been detained by Iraqi authorities for lengthy periods under harsh conditions. Travelers to that area, whether in Kuwait or not, are in immediate jeopardy of detention by Iraqi security personnel. Journalists and oil workers have been detained. And there are untold numbers of land mines waiting to be unearthed. Feeling nervous? Don't be. "We are able to defend our borders with courage and fight to the last soldier and we have a reserve force at the ready that can be on the battlefield in 24 hours," said Kuwait's chief of staff Lieutenant General Ali Al Mounen. It just depends if the discos are closed or not.
