These groups are mostly Afghans sent in to raise havoc by the ISI with the help of Hezbi Islami and other fundamentalist groups inside Afghanistan and Pakistan. Al Faran was a nom de guerre of Afghans who took Western trekkers hostage and then killed them after a shoot-out.
