What was India's answer to putting down the Sikh rebellion? They hired a poet. But you won't find Gill giving readings at a gay encounter session in the East Village any time soon. Gill's the kinda guy who loves the smell of napalm in the morning. The Indian government gave him carte blanche for whacking rebel Sikhs in the '80s, and he cashed in. He turned a force of nervous flatfoots into a death machine. He handed out promotions and cash prizes for corpses without asking for evidence of guilt. Gill has retired, but the lawlessness he created in Punjab hasn't. Gill is still active, though, accusing Amnesty International of being a pro-separatist front.
