Calcutta, West Bengal and northeastern India are once again suffering from serious outbreaks of malaria. Calcutta is reported to be the worst hit of the country's major metropolitan cities. Reports suggest that this is a continuation of a longer trend of higher incidences of malaria in general and of malignant and chloroquine-resistant strains in particular.
