According to the National Transportation Research Centre in Trivendrum, Indian roads are the most dangerous in the world. With one percent of the total vehicles in the world, India accounts for 6 percent of total road accidents and has the highest accident rate in the world at 34.6 per 100,000 people. Out of the half a million people that will be killed on the roads worldwide, over 60,000 of those deaths and 300,000 of road injuries will occur in India. More people are killed on India's roads than on the rails.
