It is almost pointless listing the various health problems in Central Africa since most of them originate here. Getting sick in Congo is as inevitable as it is debilitating. This is the home of Ebola and a future incubator of some of the world's nastiest diseases. If you come down with anything, try to get on the next plane out to Joburg or Europe. Medical facilities are extremely limited and unsanitary. Any long-term visitor should purchase medical insurance that pays for Medevac costs to Europe or the United States (See the "Diseases" chapter).
