Though trains have been a no-go since the days Western tourists were being corralled by KR guerrillas and marched off into the forest, it is indeed possible these days to take the Phnom Penh/Kompot-train. Banditry still remains a possibility. Now that the KR is gone, bandits have risen to the opportunity and taken their place. But for the first time since 1994, foreigners can actually buy a train ticket.
