Due to its sheer remoteness in the northeast of Cambodia, and because of a lack of infrastructure and a nonexistent security apparatus, travel here should be done very cautiously. In April 1997, three foreign aid workers-two American women and a Frenchman-had their NGO 4-wheel-drive vehicle shot at and halted in the province by heavily armed men in military uniforms. They were robbed and their vehicle was set ablaze and destroyed.
