Burundi is also no stranger to exporting misery. Buyoya's Burundi troops have less than covertly been involved in the DRC's civil war, aiding rebels (including Ugandan and Rwandan forces) seeking to depose Kabila. Kabila's pissed that Buyoya's helicopters are ferrying DRC guerrillas on sightseeing flights around the Congo countryside. Although Rwanda and Uganda publicly admit to aiding the Congolese rebels, Buyoya is a little more hesitant to do so. As DRC defense staff chief Faustin Munene reminded Buyoya in May 1999: "Congo will not hesitate to attack Bujumbura which, by the way, is only a few kilometers" from the DRC. Sorta like a "Subway Series" African war.
