Land mines are becoming a very popular way of killing people, and Hutu rebels are becoming accomplished gardeners and landscape architects. The main artery out of Burundi is the road to Kigali, Rwanda-Burundi's highway to hell. It makes Cambodian roads look like D.C.'s Beltway. This road has been subject to daily ambushes and the nightly planting of land mines. Hutu rebels plant land mines like cheap perennials. Sort of the African version of Dutch tulip fields. This and other roads in the country are regularly closed while military operations are carried out, meaning they're closed a lot.
