Bougainville can be considered the ultimate tropical getaway: No crowded hotels, no beach vendors and nothing but dark-faced ex-rebels and overly cheerful Aussie peacekeepers. The mine used to provide 45 percent of PNG's folding green, but for now it's just a big hole in the ground as homespun rebels keep the army at bay.
